Some manufacturers boast about products created by anglers Tackle Tote does not. But the company’s products do the talking, you could say. These tackle boxes are handy in ways that sometimes only anglers can appreciate. The company They come with all kinds of features, some of them included on all three models, others included on one or two. Features include: heavy-duty yet lightweight plastic, waterproof boxes; lots of hook storage for lures, up to sizeable ones; multi-compartment storage, including inside the lid; top trays for items like terminal tackle, hooks and tools in the lid; vials and dividers; and the bottom box for hard lures and tackle like sinkers and pork-rind containers. Features also include: a holder for line spools on the bottom of the lid to load reels quickly; leader material storage; side-mounted, exterior, removable lure and tool storage for quick access; and corrosion-resistant scissors on an exterior lanyard. That’s not all. Features also include: an interior light for night fishing; a retractable tape measure; storage under the lid that keeps in view tide charts, maps or included striped bass and bluefish length to weight and age charts; corrosion-proof manufacturing; thick nylon hinges that won’t corrode or break; and more. What’s more, Tackle Totes, produced by Kevin Lord, founder and owner of the parent company, Tackle Solutions, are manufactured by the developmentally and mentally disabled from The Arc of Opportunity in North Central Massachusetts. Here are some highlights. The Tackle Tote Jr., shown in the photo above, can be handy for surf fishing or fishing from a bicycle, kayak or boat. It’s 15 inches high by 15 inches long and 10 inches wide, and can be used as a base station, but can also be carried while fishing. Two models are available: one with a carry strap, and another with a handle. The Surf ‘N’ Boat, in the photo at left, is larger than the Tackle Tote Jr. It’s wider and longer than the Jr., but the same height, measuring 29 inches long by 20 inches wide by 15 inches high. Unique features include both a rack to hold four Plano storage boxes and a tool storage bar for up to a 30-pound Boga grip and tools like screwdrivers, pliers, crimping tools or hook removers. The Troll ‘N’ Boat, in the photo at right, is built to store trolling tackle while boating Unique features include six tubes to store umbrella rigs, pork-rind storage for up to four jars and a corrosion-proof, retractable tape measure. Now, more about Kevin, the founder and owner. Kevin and friends fish the surf and inshore waters along Martha’s Vineyard, the Vineyard Sound and Block Island for striped bass, bluefish, false albacore and bonito. Kevin is a regular writer for his local fishing publications and has given seminars at the New England Saltwater Fishing Show in Providence, Rhode Island. He and Brandon Ducharme compete as Team Tackle Tote from a boat in the five-week Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby each September and October.
