Many fishing lines are introduced each year.

Some could seem like the same as the old, just with a new name, maybe meant to catch anglers as much as fish.

But when one wins the award for the year’s best new line, that seems different.

Berkley’s IronSilk monofilament line won that award at ICAST that was just wrapped up this month.

That’s the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, known for annual awards for best new fishing products for the year.

No other line stands up to wear and tear like IronSilk, Berkley says.

The line was made to fish abrasive places like along zebra mussels, riprap, oyster beds and docks.

IronSilk is reportedly up to 33 percent more resistant to abrasion than other lines.

This means that anglers can fish smaller-diameter lines, the company says.

But the line, opaque green in color, is also meant to be smooth as silk.

“The unique, smooth composition,” Berkley says, allows the line to flow through rod guides 20 to 25 percent faster, for longer casts.

This is a new version of IronSilk, and the line is 40 percent more UV resistant than the original.

The line is available in 6- to 20-pound test, and the MSRP is $9.95 for a 300-yard spool.
