Ice Fishing Tackle

When anglers pack-boot across a frozen lake in
minus 10 degrees to fish, you might expect their tackle
to be as bare-basic as the raw outdoors.

Not so.

Here’s some of the latest innovation in ice-fishing tackle
from the company Frabill.

Titanium Spring Bobber

Spring bobbers are
nothing new on the ice.

But Frabill’s
Titanium Spring
Bobber is.

Spring bobbers made
from other material are sometimes rigid or flip-floppy, Frabill says.

Titanium offers unmatched durability, beautiful flexibility, total kink and bend elimination, superior transmission, and weightlessness, it says.

“Any old bobber can show ‘down’ bites,” professional ice-fishing guide Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson says.

“A good angler can usually feel these on his rod tip anyway. But few wire indicators can transmit those ultra-subtle ‘rise’ bites.

"Frabill’s Titanium Spring Bobber does this better than any indicator I’ve seen – perceptibly rising and straightening when panfish inhale and swim slightly up,” he says.

Titanium’s bend and kink prevention also allows for “worry-free storage of ice rods (and) glossy, natural lure locomotion,” Frabill says.

The bobber is made to fit any rod-and-reel combo, and requires
no “glue, tape or instructions,” it says.

The Calibrator

Tip-ups have reached the digital age.

At least this one has.

The Callibrator, a tip-up from Frabill,
features a digital depth finder.

The LCD display shows the depth the
bait is fished.

The Callibrator also records the time the
strike occurred and precisely how much
line was peeled from the spool.

A model of precision and simplicity,
Frabill says.

Welcome to the new age of tip-ups, it says.

Jiggler Long Rod

Until now, the tackle industry raced to develop the most sensitive ice-fishing rod, and the rod was short, Frabill says.

So rod length was sacrificed, it says.

Frabill has introduced the Jiggler Long Rod, available in several sizes to 4 1/2 feet.

Sometimes a long rod is handy for soft, sweeping hook sets and “dabbling at distances out on the open ice,” Frabill says.

Also, the line runs through the blank in the Jiggler,
negating wind blowing the line, and keeping continuous contact between the line and the blank, maximizing feel,
the company says.

It features a built-in composite reel, balanced with the rod, that feeds line straight off, instead of spinning, eliminating line twist and spinning lures.

The reel is treated with Frabill’s freeze-fighting Sub-Zero Lubrication.

The Jiggler Rod sports a spring bobber at its tip.
