The Lonely Angler

Ben Wilson, from
the lure company
The Lonely Angler,
grew up fishing from Cape Cod, near his boyhood home in Massachusetts, the
story goes.

His father, John, learned to make wooden lures.

They fished together with the lures, and were often asked where
they got them.

So they long thought about starting a lure business, and finally did.

When the father, a teacher, retired, they began marketing the lures seriously, attending a trade show where they sold a few of the plugs.

They began attending more shows, and selling the lures in several tackle shops, and the business grew.

By now, The Lonely Angler makes several lines of lures: wooden lures, holographic lures, offshore lures and lures for kayak fishing.

The lures include features like
hand-assembly, hand-painting
and through-wiring, and are
made for catches from freshwater species to saltwater big game.

The wooden lures include squid, needlefish and poppers.

The holographic lures, plastic plugs, feature top-water poppers and
top-water spooks.

The offshore lures include everything from cedar-plug-style lures to smokers, squid and multiple-lure rigs, in wood, plastic and aluminum.

The lures for kayak fishing come in combo packs of lures like poppers, top-water spooks and needlefish.

The lures, from
smaller than an ounce
to quite large, retail
for about $10 to $20.

Check them out.
