Hot Liquid Lures

Ten percent of anglers catch 90 percent of the fish.

If you’re one of them, you must be doing something different.

Here’s something different.

Hot Liquid Lures, trolling lures for big game like tuna, are custom made from hand-blown glass.

Each is
one of a kind.

They kind of
blow our minds.

The lures are
made from
high-density glass
that resists scratches, like from teeth or a billfish swipe.

The lures are available in several shapes -- pushers, concave poppers and bullets -- from smaller than 2 ounces to larger than 4.

Details: They're made from borosilicate glass fused with dichroic glass.

The borosilicate glass, made from boron oxide and silica, is resistant to thermal changes or heat and cold.

The dichroic glass, made with metal oxides, “has a transmitted color and a completely different reflected color … ” the company says.

The colors shift depending on angle of view, and the lures can be made to reflect an array of colors.

A group of glass blowers developed the lures in a garage in Bend, Oregon.

They had been perfecting their art, when one of them started developing lures.

The group began designing different styles and sizes, and sent the lures to tournaments for anglers to test.

The lures were a hit, the company says.

After further design and testing, the lures are now being introduced
to the market.

“The group at Hot Liquid Lures ... is convinced that they can change the face of fishing lures ... ” the company says.

They at least made a lure that's different, in a beautiful way.
