Eagle Claw's Bioline

Awe, what’s the matter if a little fishing line litters the waters?

You make effort to prevent
that from happening often, and
besides, it’s a big ocean.

How long is the line going to last: 10, 20, 30 years?

Try 600 years for monofilament, and even longer for fluorocarbon, according to the company
Eagle Claw.

Eagle Claw’s Bioline lasts only 5 years, the company says.

Bioline is the fishing industry’s first biodegradable fishing line,
Eagle Claw says.

Made to degrade both in water and landfills, the line performs as well as monofilament, featuring outstanding abrasion and knot strength, and the clarity of fluorocarbon, the company says.

Bioline, made from a special formula of biodegradable polymers, instead of nylon, Eagle Claw says, begins to
lose tensile strength in 10 to
12 months of use.

Then microorganisms begin digesting and breaking down the line
with the aid of sunlight and moisture, and the line eventually becomes
a simple combination of carbon dioxide, water and biomass,
the company says.

The packaging is also built to be reusable and recyclable.

Bioline, meant to give anglers an environmentally friendly choice
without sacrificing performance, retails for about $11.99 per spool.

The fact that Eagle Claw--one of fishing’s venerable companies,
entering the industry in the 1930s--has introduced this line isn't suprising.

The company strives to be a leader in green fishing gear,
Eagle Claw says.
