From the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife:
The New Jersey 2011 Fall Trout Stocking season began on October 11, and not a minute too soon for anglers who have been anxiously awaiting drier weather, lower water levels and big trout.
The wait is over, and weather and water levels have improved dramatically, just in time for the release of 21,000 super-sized trout, in 16 streams and 16 ponds and lakes throughout the state.
During the two-week fall stocking period, the NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife's Pequest Trout Hatchery will provide Garden State anglers with more than 21,000 trout measuring 14 to 24 inches and weighing 1 ½ to 8 pounds.
Those big fish, ideal water conditions, great weather and spectacular scenery combine to make fall, what a growing number of anglers consider, New Jersey's premiere trout fishing season.
And, since many of the big trout stocked in the fall are not caught or are caught and released, this exceptional trout fishery extends throughout the fall and winter months until spring stocking begins again in April.
If you limit your trout fishing to the spring, you definitely should check out the size and quality of the trout that are stocked and see what fall fishing looks like in New Jersey by viewing the video posted at
